Getting rid of bed bugs naturally is actually very easy.

First find them and remove them to a safe location. Blasting them with any kind of spray can--paint, oven cleaner, hairspray--will do the job. Just make sure you use enough to suffocate them. Or

Or find them and suck them into your vacuum cleaner.

You'll notice that the first part of each solution is finding the bed bugs. That's the hard part. And that's why you need a well trained and experienced person to find all the adults and nymphs and the places where eggs may have been laid.

Any insecticide you might find at your hardware store will not have the long lasting residual affect that is needed and should definitely not be sprayed on mattresses or bedding. Anything less than a professionally pesticide will only solve the problem of bed bugs temporarily. Rest assured they will return.

Just spraying pesticides will not get rid of bed bugs naturally. Most Pest Control organizations recommend an integrated approach--preventative measures, sanitation, and chemicals applied to the targeted sites.

Here's how you can do your part as a homeowner or apartment dweller.

Any infested bedding and clothes will need to be bagged and washed at a minimum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit or thrown away since these items cannot be treated with insecticides. Smaller items that can't be laundered can be wrapped in black plastic and placed in a hot, sunny location for at least several days at again a minimum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

They can also be killed by freezing but the chilling period must be maintained for at least two weeks. Trying to rid an entire house by raising or lowering the thermostat will be totally useless.

However, vacuuming to get rid of the bugs and eggs can be useful on mattresses, carpet, and walls. Close attention should be paid to seams, and the edges of the mattress and box spring as well as the perimeter edge of wall to wall carpets. Make sure you dispose of the vacuum contents in a sealed trash bag. Steam cleaning carpets is also helpful for killing any bed bugs and eggs that the vacuum might have missed.

Repair any cracks in plaster and glue down any loosened wallpaper to eliminate future nesting sites.

Now while these measures are helpful, it's time to call in the professionals who use a variety of low odour sprays, dusts, and aerosols to get rid of the little critters. Experienced companies know where to look for bed bugs and have an assortment of management tools at their disposal.
